As a primary project of Marafiki wa Afrika Tanzania (MAT), Baramba Girls' Secondary School was established to provide O-level education (Form One to Form Four) to girls
Key aspects of this project include:

  1. Strategic Objectives: The school aims to minimize obstacles that impede girls' access to education.
  2. Support for Vulnerable Students: MAT actively mobilizes funds to provide sponsorships for orphans and most vulnerable children (MVC)
  3. Academic Excellence:The school is recognized as one of the top three performing schools in the Ngara District and features modern science laboratories and an electronic library to enhance learning.
  4. Skills and Empowerment: Beyond standard academics, students are taught entrepreneurship skills .
  5. Holistic Development:The school community benefits from social enterprise projects.

Environmental Conservation

MAT is dedicated to promoting productive land and protecting nature through sustainable natural resources management . the organization actively establishes tree nurseries and conducts planting initiatives at water catchment areas to control soil erosion and protect timber resources . a key part of this mission involved training women from kasharazi village, ngara district how to make wood saving stoves by using a grant from tanzania forest fund (taff) in 2020, which directly contributes to reducing bush fire incidents and protecting the local ecosystem . through its eco-farming project, mat also maintains demonstration plots to teach peasant farmers eco-friendly technology for growing perennial crops, ensuring that individual living conditions improve alongside environmental health.

Who We Are

The Marafiki wa Afrika Tanzania (MAT) is a not for profit, non-government organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania. MAT was founded with the intention to partner with communities to develop interventions that improve the well-being of poor and marginalized communities in Tanzania. MAT was established in 1995 and on 21st May 1997, it was registered under Societies Ordinance 1954 (Rule 5) with registration No. SO. 8910. It was re-registered as non-governmental organization under Section 12(1) of Act No. 24 of 2002 on December 19th, 2017 with registration No. ooNGO/0009425. The Organization was formed to enable members to work towards enhancing education, economic and cultural development among themselves and the communities in which they live.
The head office is located in Ngara town at Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Building opposite the District Education Offices along Murgwanza hospital road. MAT is a potent NGO that is continually learning and driving to succeed in serving its target beneficiaries who are marginalized communities such as people living with HIV/AIDS, aged people, orphans, vulnerable children, youth and women.

Our Partners

Currently, MAT collaborates with various development organizations in the Kagera region and international partners. Our overseas collaborators include Marafiki wa Afrika Germany (MAG), Fare World Rastat (FWR), and Engineers Without Borders (EWB).

We also serve as a partner on environmental issues for the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP) regarding the Rusumo project. Locally, MAT has partnered with Twaweza/Uwezo Tanzania, the Tanzania Forest Fund (TaFF), local government authorities, and various community-based organizations. Additionally, MAT is an active member of the Ngara Non-governmental Organizations Network (NANGONET).
